Cairn d’eau [Water cairn]
In 1998, in the Musée Promenade, Andy Goldsworthy created five “water cairns” that accompany the visitor along an access path (the cairns footpath).
Water that circulates inside the hollow cairns is audible but invisible, like the water on the Musée Promenade: it is present everywhere even when it is not seen.
Each cairn is an echo chamber that amplifies the sound of an underground stream that links them together. Visitors follow the footpath from the top of St Benoit Park to the bottom.
By its silence, the first cairn announces the mystery that is revealed by the last cairn.
